In ancient Babylonia, Tiamat is the goddess credited for the origin of All that Is. Legends say her death formed the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers that created a stretch of fertile agricultural land in the Middle East known as the Fertile Crescent. Also, her death symbolizes the rise of patriarchy over the earlier matriarchal culture of Babylonia.
Dates for Inviting Her
March 27-April 2
Reasons to Invite Her
* If you wish to be more imaginative and productive..
* If you long for success in artistic career.
As you embark on a creative venture, ask Tiamat to lend her power to your undertaking, whether that means painting, gardening, writing, cooking or something else. This dynamic fertility goddess can give you the inspiration and guidance you need to bring your dreams to fruition.
How to Invite Her
You will need:
* A blue or or blue-green glass bottle with a stopper
* Saltwater
* Spring/freshwater
* Water from a source or place you consider sacred
* Water from a running stream or river
* Rainwater collected during a thunderstorm
* Any form of water you can gather, such as dew, melted snow, etc.
1. Cleanse the bottle using organic soap or vinegar and running water.
2. Become aware of Tiamat’s presence as you add the various forms of water you’ve collected, one by one, to the bottle. With each addition, sense the different energies and purposes contained in that type of water.
3. When you’ve finished adding all the different types of water, cap the bottle then shake it three times to blend the waters’ energies.
4. Sense their disparate natures dissolving and their harmonious energies merging.
5. Empty the bottle of mixed waters outdoors in a place that’s dry, rocky or barren. Sense the goddess blessing this place – and you – with her creative power.
Animal Totems
In addition to her usual depiction as a water dragon, Tiamat is sometimes shown with a woman’s torso and snaky appendages. As a seawater goddess, she has an affinity with ocean creatures such as eels, dolphins and crocodiles – she may even appear as a mermaid.
