The Schedule for Scanning client computers can be customized with SEPM (Symantec Endpoint Manager). Sometimes, system scanning needs to be done on schedule so that it will not hamper performance.
EDIT VIRUS AND SPYWARE PROTECTION POLICY
From Home, go to Policies > Virus and Spyware Protection. Right-click the Virus and Spyware Protection policy to be edited.

SCHEDULED SCANS
Under Windows Settings > Scheduled Scans > Administrator-Defined Scans, click “Add” to add a Scheduled Scan.


ADD SCHEDULED SCAN
Upon clicking ADD button, a pop-up window will appear. Select Create Scheduled Scan option. Click OK to continue.

Below is the window for creating a scheduled scan.

- SCAN NAME – Determine the name of this particular scheduled scan. This will appear on the reports.
- FILES AND FOLDERS TO SCAN – You can customize which folders will be scanned. By default, all folders will be scanned.
- FILE TYPES – By default, all file types will be scanned. This can also be customized to scan specific file typed.
- ADVANCED SCANNING OPTIONS

- Compressed Files – This portion will allow you to customize how the anti-virus will treat compressed files. Compressed files can be scanned or not, and the level of expanding the compressed files can also be set. By default, it’s 3.

INSIGHT LOOKUP
Open link from Symantec to know more about what is insight lookup.
This portion also allows customizing the action to be executed by the antivirus when insight is triggered by a certain file.

SCHEDULE

- How often the scan should run? Frequency can be Daily, Weekly or Monthly. The time of scan can also be customized.
- Scan duration. You can specify if either the scan will continue until finished. If a specific duration was set, when reached, scan will stop.
- Scan Retries. If the scan was not executed as scheduled, by default, Symantec will retry after 72 hours. This can be adjusted or disabled.
ACTIONS
This is how antivirus will treat each kind of threat when found on a computer being scanned.

NOTIFICATIONS
This pertains to the notification that will be displayed to the client upon scanning.
