Cipher

A cipher is just another term for algorithm.

Concealment Cipher

These kind of ciphers are used to hide messages in plain sight. One method is to send a letter, but the actual message is revealed when extracting the first character for each sentence.

Sample message:

Please forgive me for being too pushy about this. Unfortunately, the security incident that we are experiencing needs your urgent attention. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the SLA for solving these types of issue should not take more than 24 hours. However, it has been 3 days, and we still have an open internet in one of our production VLANs. Until we close this, our client data remains exposed to possibility of being saved to an outside storage (email/text editor/cloud storage). Good thing, we have endpoint DLP installed, which sends notification to administrators every time sensitive data is pasted to an external site. What is not good is that it’s an after the fact since the DLP is only for monitoring, not blocking. A lot of false positive events will trigger blocking if the DLP is set to active. Passive DLP helps but is not that 100% effective. Once done with URL whitelist implementation, please let me know.

Upon extracting the first character for each sentence, the concealed message is:
